It’s a time of year when we give thanks to those that we care about and for the blessings in our lives. One of my biggest joys is when I can find ways to give back to my community. I am happy to announce that Blue Summit is the recipient of a recent San Diego FPA (Financial Planning Association) Pro-Bono contest. FPA is a non-profit member group whose members have given countless hours of Pro Bono services to underprivileged groups and organizations.
In 2012, I founded a pro-bono project in San Diego that provides a 12 week course for domestic violence victims. Through the FPA, I had an opportunity to give back to my community and to help women in transition take care of themselves by teaching them how to take control of their finances. This was immensely rewarding, and this program continues to thrive today. In 2014, I received one of the FPA’s top awards, “The Heart of Financial Planning Award”, which recognizes professionals that use financial planning as a vehicle to give back to the planning community and public, embody the spirit of financial planning and serve as exemplary representatives of the FPA’s Core Values.
My work garnered renewed attention with this 2019 contest and a monetary donation was given to the YWCA’s Becky’s House Domestic Violence program in San Diego. This program “encompasses a 24-hour crisis hotline, emergency shelter, transitional housing, legal support, and integrated services. In addition to safe and stable housing, our specialized system of care allows clients to recover from trauma, develop plans to advance their life goals, obtain permanent housing, and achieve lasting independence.” I’m very happy that I can contribute to organizations that are doing such exemplary on-the-ground efforts!
